French Mastiff or Dogue de Bordeaux, Bordeaux mastiff, Bordeauxdog is a large mastiff breed—and one of the oldest French dog breeds. Dogue de Bordeaux is an immensely powerful mastiff-type guardian dogs. The dog should display devoted affection toward his owner and behave as a good companion dog to the entire family. Even though this dog is a natural guard dog, the Mastiff’s character should be vigilant, not aggressive.

French Mastiff body is slightly longer than tall, and the distance from the chest to the ground is slightly less than the depth of the chest. This dog has a massive head, serious expression, stocky and athletic build, and self-assured attitude.

The most ancient dog breeds, the Dogue de Bordeaux (“Mastiff of Bordeaux”) was around even before France was France. Moreover these dogs brawny fawn-coated guardians of considerable courage are famously loyal, affectionate, and protective.

• The Dogue de Bordeaux is extremely devoted and loyal.
• The dog tends to stay close to its chosen person or family at all times.
• These dog breeds are eager to please but may not be particularly good at obedience unless it’s worth their while.
