Akita a large & powerful dog breeds with much substance and heavy bone, and is slightly longer than tall and noble and intimidating presence. They were basically used for guarding royalty and nobility in feudal Japan. This dog also tracked and hunted wild boar, black bear, and sometimes deer. Akita Dogs does not back down from challenges and does not frighten easily too.

AKITA DOG

This is muscular and double-coated dogs of ancient Japanese lineage famous for her dignity, to courage, and loyalty. These are normally quiet, fastidious dogs . This is reserved with strangers and can be assertive, so should be introduced carefully to new dogs and household pets. They can also be domineering. Akita’s large size make him difficult to control and so is not a breed suitable for everyone. He has extremely strength and endurance dog and also needs dedicated training to help him to properly channel energy. Being a brilliant breed, however, they can easily become to bored with training. He thrives when challenged and given a job to do.

  • They tend to be less lenitive of dogs of the same sex. Because of this reason, Akitas, unless highly socialized, are not generally well-suited for off-leash dog parks.

  • These dogs also need the chance to run in a safe area or on leash for a long jog.
  • His coat needs brushing about once a week to remove dead hair too.
  • Major concerns : CHD, PRA.
  • Minor concerns : elbow dysplasia, pemphigus, sebaceous adenitis, gastric torsion, cruciate ligament rupture, osteosarcoma, lymphosarcoma, hypothyroidism.
  • Occasionally seen: PRA, patellar luxation, VKH-like syndrome, entropion, epilepsy, cataract, polyneuropathy, renal cortical hypoplasia, microphthalmia.
  • Suggested tests : hip, (elbow), eye, thyroid.
  • Note: Akitas are especially sensitive to anemia from red blood cell damage caused by eating onions.
